Aerial

Surfista a executar um aéreo (manobra aérea) numa onda

Aerial refers to a progressive surfing manoeuvre in which the surfer launches the board entirely above the lip and lands back on the wave with speed, control and stability. Aerials require precise timing, strong projection and the ability to maintain connection with the board in the air.

Their execution depends on projection for upward lift, speed to carry momentum, traction for takeoff grip and refined landing control to absorb impact and re-engage the rail.

Aerial performance traits

  • Explosive projection off the lip
  • Full board lift above the wave
  • Controlled rotation or straight airs
  • Stable re-entry with maintained speed

Aerials are common in high-performance shortboarding, especially in fast, ramp-like sections that allow the surfer to load the rail, release upward and land smoothly with speed.
Shapers tune boards for aerial performance using rocker, rail profile, fin setup and bottom contours that enhance pop, lift, landing control and responsive flex.
