Carbon Flex

Carbon flex refers to the flex behaviour created by carbon fibre reinforcement in a surfboard’s structure. Carbon layouts increase torsional stability, rebound speed, projection and energy retention, giving the board a more responsive and spring-loaded feel under compression.

Its behaviour depends on flex pattern, carbon placement (stringer bands, rails, tail patches or parabolic layouts), laminate weight and how carbon integrates with lamination schedules. The stiffness and directional properties of carbon fibre influence how the board bends, how quickly it rebounds and how much feedback it gives in rail engagement, turns and projection.

Carbon flex supports drive generation, dynamic rebound, durability and vibration damping, especially in high-performance builds.
Shapers refine carbon flex through strategic reinforcement mapping, fibre orientation and construction tuning that maintain responsiveness, feedback and control.
