Resin Transfer Molding (RTM)

Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) is a closed-mold surfboard construction method where dry fibres, reinforcements or composite skins are placed inside a sealed cavity before resin is injected under controlled pressure. This process produces high fibre-to-resin ratios, strong laminate bonds and highly consistent structural behaviour throughout the board.

In surfboard manufacturing, RTM systems position dry fabrics around a shaped foam core before injecting engineered resin systems into the mold. The pressurised flow saturates fibres evenly, reducing air pockets and improving skin adhesion, stiffness control and impact resistance. RTM delivers cleaner laminates and predictable mechanical behaviour compared to traditional open-mold techniques.

RTM supports advanced composite builds using pre-shaped shells, structural inserts and engineered laminate schedules before final finishing or glassing. The method enhances durability and precision, while reducing waste and enabling repeatable results across production runs.
