Carbon Lamination

Carbon lamination refers to the use of carbon fibre fabrics, tapes, or composite sheets within the surfboard’s lamination process to increase stiffness, tensile strength, flex control, and structural efficiency. Carbon significantly alters how a board stores and releases energy, improving rebound speed, precision, rail integrity and long-term durability.

Its behaviour depends on weave type, fibre orientation, resin compatibility, layer placement, and integration with the underlying foam core. Carbon-enhanced laminations provide zone-specific reinforcement, improving tail drive, reducing twist, and stabilising flex patterns under heavy load.

Carbon lamination is commonly paired with composite layups, hybrid laminations, and epoxy systems to refine weight-to-strength ratios and enhance performance.

Shapers and laminators refine carbon lamination through calibrated layer placement, fibre-orientation tuning and resin-wet-out control that maintain responsiveness, feedback and long-term structural consistency.
