Turbulent Flow

Turbulent flow describes the irregular and chaotic motion of water particles that occurs when velocity and energy exceed laminar thresholds, creating vortices and eddies along the surfboard’s surface. It increases drag and energy dissipation but can also enhance edge hold and control in steep waves. Turbulent flow interacts with wave energy conversion and flow dynamics to define pressure zones, lift, and stability.
Shapers refine turbulent flow through bottom contours, rails, and tail geometry that balance speed, grip, and release.
