Eddy currents are localized circular water movements formed when main ocean currents encounter obstacles, coastline irregularities, or pressure differentials. These swirling motions trap and redistribute heat, nutrients, and energy, influencing flow dynamics at multiple scales.
For surfers, eddy currents subtly alter wave shape and energy consistency, particularly around reefs and points.
